Consultancy

Before I went into private practice I spent thirteen years inside the employee assistance programme (EAP) world — in account management, sales and then operations — so I know the industry inside out, from both the commercial and the clinical side. I bring that knowledge, along with a Certificate in Management Consultancy Essentials (CMCE), PRINCE2 training and a coaching qualification, to help organisations work out whether their EAP is actually delivering.

If you are trying to understand what you are really getting from your provider, these are the sorts of questions I can help you answer:

  • Are the clinical structures your provider uses the right ones — and do you genuinely understand what you are paying for? We’ll look closely at the mix of provision (face to face, telephone, online, critical-incident trauma response, manager support) and whether it is offered fairly across your staff and managers, cutting through the jargon as we go.
  • How effective is the clinical support? We’ll examine real cases to see how well the therapy works, how effectiveness is measured, and how that information reaches you.
  • Is risk being managed properly? We’ll go through the provider’s risk protocols — registers, escalation, and how and when you would be told about organisational risk.
  • Are the non-clinical, information services any good? We’ll look at how those cases are handled, measured and fed back, and how well they join up with the clinical side.
  • What does this provider give you that another might not? With fifteen years of EAP experience behind me, I can give you a much clearer picture of the value you are actually getting.

Training

I have been training since my army days in the 1990s, and I combine those instructor skills with my clinical background to deliver sessions across a range of workplace themes, including:

  • Stress for managers — one hour, half a day or a full day
  • Stress for employees — one hour
  • Workplace stress and performance — one hour
  • Health and wellbeing for managers — one hour (or up to 2.5 hours)
  • Healthy living, and smoking cessation — one hour each
  • Using your EAP well, around critical incidents and for manager support — one hour each
  • Managing mental health in the workplace — one hour
  • Employee wellbeing, and work-life balance — one hour each

I’m also happy to build new sessions around related themes, as long as they sit within my remit as a psychological therapist who has worked in business. If in doubt, just ask.
